KKN Tematik membranding dengan istilah KKN UMD (Unej Membangun Desa). KKN UMD ini telah memiliki banyak tema di antaranya: TIK (Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi), Stunting dan Sanitasi Lingkungan, Wirausaha dan Wisata, Kewirausahaan Pesantren, Desa Tanggap Bencana (Destana), Desa Buruh Migran (Desbumi), serta Literasi Desa. Banyak desa dampingan KKN UMD telah naik kelas dengan berbagai produk desanya. KKN UMD telah dikenal dan banyak memperoleh rekognisi-apresiasi dari pihak luar Unej.
